Over the 10 years, container traffic in European ports have grown on 20-70%, this indicates the active transportation of goods from EU countries. In 2018, the freight traffic in the ports of Barcelona, Genoa, Le Havre, Rotterdam, Piraeus and Sines have grown on 10-15% compared to the previous year.
In recent years, the furniture industry has experienced unprecedented growth in the EU, mainly due to exports. The European furniture industry has a huge advantage due to constant access to raw materials. Metal furniture, medical furniture and upholstered furniture account for the largest share of exports.
Another EU sector with significant growth is the export of medical equipment. A significant share in this sector belongs to innovation, many companies finance their own research and development in collaboration with research institutes and universities. One of these achievements is nanofiber for medical purposes. At present, the Czech Republic is a major manufacturer of electron microscopes and holds a leading position in the export of this equipment both to the EU countries and beyond.
Machinery manufacturing is the cornerstone of the Czech economy, its production base consists of more than 1100 companies. These companies are active mainly in the field of power engineering, transport engineering, manufacturing of processing and molding machines, metallurgy and the production of metal structures and elements. The Czech Republic exports almost 90% of its engineering products for the most part to EU countries, but it has enhanced its position in the markets of Asia and Latin America. The products were also established growth thanks to new technologies, such as, for example, nanotechnology, advanced electronics, mechatronics and automation systems.
The chemical industry is one of the main industries in the Czech Republic. In 2017, the revenue of this industry, which employs more than 116,000 people, amounted to 22 billion euros. The production of basic chemicals (64%) and pharmaceuticals (17%) gives the largest share in terms of sales. Chemical products are supplied to other related industries, such as the automotive, construction, electronic, food and textile industries.
